Hershel’s Farmhouse

Hershel’s farmhouse from season two of The Walking Dead is one of the most popular sites from the show.  It is also one of the most inaccessible due to it being someone’s property and location well off the road.  As far as I know, no fans have been able to access the property to obtain photos of the location, at least on foot.

I have to send a huge Thank You to John, who recently sent us an aerial photo of the prison location, for sending us this photo of the farmhouse location.

John mentioned that this photo was taken yesterday, October 24th, 2012 so it’s about as recent as you can get.  It appears that all remnants of the old barn have been removed and you can just make out where it once stood, prior to Rick burning it down toward the end of the second season.

Where is the farm house located?

    • It’s near Senoia and not very far from the studio, actually. You can see it on our Google Map. More specifically, the house is located off GA 85/74.

I just recently learned that the owner is a cousin of my coworker. He told me that the house was originally built at the front of the property(it could be seen from the HWY) but they moved it to its current location about 12 years ago to have more privacy. I asked if he could possibly get me access to take some pics and he said he would ask. Fingers crossed!

Someone also mentioned they are related to the owners of it. She was going to try and get there as well. I see there is no burn mark from where the barn once stood then. The dirt road that led to it is partially still there. That fence line must have been put in by that production crew seems to be no longer there. I wonder if that spot where Shane and T – Dog had burned those bodies was for real. That was not too far in back of the barn. I think that was in the area where Dale was attacked by that zombie.

I know the burn marks appear to show up on some of the google sat photo’s. Interesting! I never imagined the back of the house would look like that.

Seriously though, if the owners are reading this…Find a good partner with expertise, and open up a Haunted Trail/Walking Dead experience for Halloween. You could market the fire out of your property as Hershel’s Farm location and make a killing while letting people see the place first hand!

You people crack me up! What’s with the obsession of the farm? It’s just a house…no zombies left. No cast or crew still hangin’ around. By and large it is definitely a beautiful place, but it’s SOMEONE’S home. Why don’t you all go hang out in downtown Senoia, Haralson and Grantville and actually see some real action instead of houndin’ your friends for pictures of the farm from last season! There are plenty of pictures on AMC’s website. Download them and add them to your collection! :-)

You can see the farmhouse on google earth, here’s the location’s details : 33.300251994, -84.5230542959

    • Yes indeed, but I don’t know how old that image is since I have no idea how often Google updates their views. Unfortunately that’s the only way anyone who doesn’t live in the house will be able to see it as well.

  7. Cheryl says:

I do remember years ago the house being close to the highway and it being moved…

  8. Secret says:

My step grandma know the guy who lives on that farm.

  9. Shane says:

The people who live there would never open any sort of tour. The walkers weren’t even allowed near the house. they’re very particular apparently..

Lighten up, Suzi. It’s all in fun. Downloading pics off AMC’s website is hardly the same as visiting a set location in person, regardless of when filming took place. I’ve met a majority of the cast, taken pics and video actually during filming, yet I’d still like to get some shots, for example, of the quarry from Season 1 one of these days. These locations are a kind of living, breathing “prop” still available and viewable by fans that they can visit at their own convenience, especially since folks living across America and the rest of the globe don’t enjoy the luxury of just “hanging out in Senoia for live action” like some of us do. This website is obviously a labor of love for the show, and a great, GREAT gift for fans helping them to participate and feel a connection with the show…even if it’s visiting Elder’s Mill a year from now and saying to their friend, “Cool! This is where Andrew Lincoln gave his ricktatorship speech!”….or yes, getting a pic of the farmhouse or prison set. These places are a memorial, or sorts. Certainly you get that, yes?

  12. Jackie says:

Hey Suzi, what do you mean “you people”? ;)

I completely agree with Mike N. I don’t understand why someone like Suzi would even be on this website if she doesn’t “get” it.
