I received this filming notice earlier today and thought I’d pass it along. It appears The Walking Dead will be filming in Newnan on Monday, October 29th, 2012 from 7AM – 8PM along a portion of US 29S. From the sound of the letter, as well as the enclosed map, this may not be an easy location to access for fans since many surrounding roads will be closed.
Fans in Newnan may know more about the geography of this location so perhaps they can add more information regarding accessibility.

I wonder if they are filming for the climatic gun battle with the Governor?
times-herald.com tells where the filming will be and what roads will be closed.

do they typically let people watch any of the filming?
If they don’t want anyone watching, they’ll have security keep fans well away. If you can see them filming at a given location, it’s because they let fans get that close. To answer your question though, it just depends on how close they want to let fans get that day, but normally yes they’ll allow fans to watch filming.
my wife and I live in Newnan, we checked out the filming location for tomorrow. There wasnt much going on but they were definitly setting up a big tent on Oaklawn Circle which I assume has somthing to do with the production.
Thanks for the info! The tent will likely be used as a staging area of some kind, I’d guess. Hopefully some folks up there will be able to give us more info tomorrow.
I was there for several hours Monday on Oaklawn Circle. The tent was for catering meals and I saw vans come and go with crew and zombies taking a lunch break. The only actor I saw at the tent was Michonne. The filming was taking place at an old motel on the corner of Oaklawn Circle and Hwy 29. I could see only the back of the motel – a camera man on the roof and a couple of the crew beside it.
Did you get any pics from there?
i was there that day also, and that all i got to see to,
How far in advance do you know about filming dates/locations? I’d LOVE to drive down there one day!
It varies but usually about a week out. It all depends on how secret they’re trying to keep filming that day. After today, I’m not sure where they’ll be.
I wasnt able to see much today, at one point, the heavy wind blew the road closed sign down on Oaklawn Cir….so I accidently (and it really was an accident) was able to drive further in to the blocked off area then I was supposed to. The only thing I was able to see were a bunch of trailers used to carry equipment. I was pretty quickly turned around and when i came by a few hours later there were police were I had driven through earlier. Sorry…nothing very interesting.
My best friend owns the land in Newman that they are filming on!
Any idea what scene was filmed here?
Yeah, I have an idea, but it hasn’t aired yet so I can’t get into specifics. Not that I have any real spoilerish knowledge, this was a fairly closed down set, but until I see it on the screen, I won’t know for sure exactly what all they shot and where. I’ve heard the filming took place at the Oaks Inn along that stretch of road and the few pictures I’ve seen seem to verify that, but that’s all I know at the moment.
Sounds good. Can’t wait to see it!
What scenes were filmed at this location? It hasn’t been added to the map. Thanks!
They’re on the map by individual locations. A good portion of “This Sorrowful Life” was filmed in this area (the hotel, the section of road where Merle releases Michonne).
Ah I didn’t realize it was where Merle released Michonne as well. Would that have been on 16 north of the hotel?
Yes, it was along that large stretch of road they had closed for filming. There are a few pictures of it in this photo update.
I was wondering the same thing myself a couple months back, but I had a chance to check out some sites this past weekend. This is the hotel where Merle hotwires the car while Michonne is tied up. On the map, it’s “Merle Hotwires A Car”.
Having been there myself now, it’s weird how creepy that place really is. It doesn’t appear to be in business anymore.
