As seen in another photo sharing update earlier this week, Ross too was able to get some photos of the signatures in the Woodbury Shoppe left behind by some of the cast and crew who have visited the store in Senoia, as well as other locations in the Senoia area. He also enclosed some nice photos of the back of the Woodbury Town Hall set facade.

This time, Brittany was able to make it to several filming sites including the studio on the first day of production back on May 6th. Her pictures, the few she was able to take in that area, show how packed the studio lot is. You’ll also notice the large trailers in the lot. I believe these are the large trailers the makeup crew works out of, which Greg Nicotero commented that the makeup team likes to use even when filming is going on at the studio. If so, then these same trailers will follow the production crew as filming moves around to various sites and if you see them, there’s a good chance filming is nearby.

Brittany also included some photos from around Senoia, the ESCO feed mill where so many of season three’s final episodes were filmed, and the Oaks Inn in Newnan where Merle hot-wired a car while attempting to take Michonne back to the Governor.

I also have some photos courtesy of Clint Carrington who traveled over to Senoia to see if anything was going on recently and was also able to get some photos of the vehicle staging area. I’ve heard this fenced in area is near the post office in Senoia but I don’t have an actual address. Clint mentioned that the grass is starting to grow long in Senoia and there are detour signs up in the area but they are currently covered with bags.

I’ve heard talk that filming is set to resume in Senoia soon but have not heard an actual date yet.

Laci has graciously allowed me to share this rather large photo set with fellow fans, as well as a story from the owner of one of the buildings in Grantville that has an interesting history, as told by the owner, Bill Brooks, and one that fans of the movie Lawless will also enjoy:

Him and his wife bought the building 30 something years ago and moved into it when they were first starting out.  He told us he’d been wanting to sell it for a numerous amount of years and that he just couldn’t let go of it. He got a call a couple of years ago from a guy that wanted to rent it out for the production of a movie. Come to find out, the movie was “Lawless.”  He said next thing he new he was standing face to face with some big wig actors. And someone mention how he should try out for casting call just to see what happened so he did. He showed up expecting nothing and left he got a call back and just like that he was on the set working just like that. They thought it would be cool for him to be in the movie since he owned the building. He wasn’t credited but still. He said his hands were one of them that blew up the distillery around the end of the movie. Later on he got another call and then found himself face to face with the producer Robert Kirkman and the entire “Walking Dead” cast then he was a extra on that too, along with them using his building in the episode when they found Morgan.

One of the things I enjoyed about Laci’s photographs is the use of black and white, my favorite form of photography. (*Update note: The restoration of the apartment is not being done by the show’s production staff, but rather by the property’s owner.  As far as I know, it is not being done in anticipation of any filming, but just to have it as it was when the episode, “Clear”, was filmed there.)

On the trip to Senoia, Steve stopped in The Woodbury Shoppe and took some photos of the walls that the cast and crew from The Walking Dead have signed. Another great reason to stop in the store if you visit Senoia, along with all of the great souvenirs they offer.

Steve took quite a few photos, over 100, and it was difficult picking a few to post. However, since these were the first I’ve seen of the apartment renovation during the process, I included as many as possible. Thank you Steve for sharing these photos and allowing me to share them with fellow fans.

This is an old Wal-Mart and Winn Dixie combination parking lot.

Our Super Wal-Mart was constructed here in Griffin, Georgia up the road from this particular set about ten or so years ago. The location of this set is where the Wal-Mart used to be, but Winn Dixie was its next door neighbor in the same parking lot. So either reference is correct. Most people think of it as the old Wal-Mart lot just for sentimental reasons, and also because a lot of people (me included) tend to forget we used to have a Winn Dixie right where the “Big Spot” is right now. So the “Big Spot” exterior is, technically, the former Winn Dixie, but to call it Wal Mart would work too.

As far as I can tell this is a single-day shoot.

Alexander also told me that rumor is there was going to be a plane crashed into the building, or that it was going to be made to look that way. Of course we probably won’t know for sure unless someone is there to view the filming or until we see it on the screen this fall.

Not long after Alexander’s message and photos, I also received some additional photos from other fans in the area.

I’d also like to thank Jason who went by the location this morning for a few photos as well.

This filming will be taking place in conjunction with some road work directly in front of the location so traffic is going to be disrupted quite a bit as this is a main road through Griffin. I’ve heard that all businesses, etc, in the area will remain open while filming is taking place but traffic will be stopped periodically not only for construction, but likely also for the filming.

A big thank you to everyone who let me know about this filming location so I could relay the information and to Alexander, Lynna, and Jason for sending in photos of the site.

Update: Alexander sent in the following information relating to the filming site which may be useful to anyone planning to attend. I’m just going to copy his words here rather than try and write it from memory:

For anyone thinking of going to the shoot site : This is a BIG parking lot. If you come in to Griffin, you’ll probably want to park down near the car wash or gym area. You will see a business called Irish City Pub, then to its right is a car wash, behind all of that in a small shopping nook is a gym. Next door to there is an event center. Okay, the building you see immediately to the right is the old Wal-Mart. Right after that is the old Winn Dixie where the Big Spot has been created.

It all depends on how traffic gets stopped. I don’t know if say traffic is stopped 3 blocks away if that means pedestrians will be stopped at the same time. It DOES NOT LOOK THAT WAY. It seems that if you are on foot you will be able to access the area where filming will be taking place, and due to the size of this lot you should be able to find plenty of places. Try the Subway that is close by, it is at an angle but you will be able to see the whole set from there. At least the exterior portion. I do not know how much if any filming is taking place inside the “store.”

I wish I could give a time for the day but nothing is coming out of this to provide that. Given the placement of the flagger signs and the electronic signs it appears that this will be taking place at least partially during the day

The events calendar will be a place I can consolidate information and give fellow fans an easy place to view possible upcoming filming dates and info without having to look back through past posts. I don’t know that I’ll make a post every time I update it, but all information that I know will be there so be sure to keep an eye on it.
